Sixth Grade Math Overview:
Chesterfield School uses the Big Ideas math curriculum for grades 6-8. This resource is aligned to the National Common Core State Standards (see link above) which summarize the skills sixth graders should master.
In sixth grade we start out with a review of factors and multiples and then follow the general flow and sequence of concepts in the textbook. Major areas of focus this year include:

- Greatest Common Factor, and Least Common Factor
- Fraction and Decimal Operations (Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division)
- Algebraic Expressions
- Geometry (Area of triangles, parallelograms & trapezoids & coordinate graphing)
- Ratios & Rates
- Statistics
